In doing so, we have developed this page as a resource of helpful tips that will not only save you money but also provide for a more comfortable living season after season.

Summer Month Tips:

Make sure areas such as around windows and doors have been properly sealed. Including weather stripping the doors and caulking of the windows, this will provide some extra protection against the hot air of the outdoors that may enter your home and cause your cooling system to work harder than it needs to.

In extreme heat you can save cooling costs by closing the doors of rooms that are not occupied and keeping shades drawn on the windows of the rooms which are occupied.

Depending on the size of the home you can actually save up to 3% on your cooling costs for every degree you raise on your thermostat during the heat of the summer. For example, by raising the thermostat from 73 degrees to 78 degrees, you can save up to 15% on your cooling bills.

Fall Month Tips:

Plan ahead for emergency heating alternatives. For example, a wood burning stove can provide emergency heat if needed. Also, consider the purchase of a portable generator which can offer partial or even full power in the event of an emergency.

Be sure to cover or even remove window air conditioning units which may allow cold air to seep from the window around the window frame.

Be sure to have our technicians at Fanning Services, Inc. perform a preventative maintenance checkup to ensure your heating system is operating at maximum potential.

Winter Month Tips:

Just like raising the thermostat in the summer, if you lower the thermostat in the winter by 3 degrees you should see a potential savings of 15% of your heating expenses.

Make sure and clean or replace all filters, air registers, baseboards and radiators. This will allow maximum efficiency the system.

Spring Month Tips:

Water heaters require annual care and preventative maintenance to ensure productivity. If sediment has collected excessively, the water heater will lose its effectiveness. A proper cleaning, by flushing the unit completely will not only improve the efficiency of the unit but also extend its overall life.
